Está na hora de aprendermos mais um phrasal verb! Você conhece o verbo flush? Ele é bem versátil, podendo significar “dar descarga”, “nivelar”, “enxaguar”, “enrubescer” de vergonha, e várias outras coisas. Flush pode ainda ser substantivo ou adjetivo, então é mesmo uma palavra bem polivalente.
Mas hoje nos focaremos no phrasal verb flush out, que tem pelo menos três significados: 1) “enxaguar” ou “expelir” algo indesejável com água; 2) “fazer sair à força” de um esconderijo; 3) “expor” alguém.
1 – Comecemos vendo flush out no sentido de “enxaguar” ou de “expelir” substâncias nocivas do corpo por meio da água:
